Begininng Wed., Feb 13, Celebrating our Salvation: Join Fr. Mike Marini in a Lenten journey through the readings of Holy Week. Each week there will be an opportunity for study and prayerful sharing of the Good News of our salvation.The study will be starting Wednesday, February 13, at 9:30 a.m. and at 7:30 p.m. in room 108. Ecumenical Lenten Talks on Justice: Our Outreach Ministry will join several other churches for dialogue and action on Sunday evenings during Lent. Holy Cross and other denominations will rotate locations for the meetings to look at peace, justice, repentance and reconciliation. Please see the Kiosk for a complete list of activities. Sun., Feb 17 - Meal Ministry: Join with others preparing and sharing dinner. Reservations are $8 per person and may be obtained by placing your name, and $8 together in the collection basket before Sunday, Feb 10.
Sun., Feb 17 - An Interfaith Dialogue: at 4:00 p.m., in room 108, Holy Cross will be hosting a celebration of Ashura (a Muslim feast remembering the landing of Noah's ark in Eastern Turkey). Members of our local Muslim and Jewish communities will gather with us to share and learn about the significance of forty days in the ark, forty years in the desert, and forty days of lent. We'll feast on Ashura pudding as well. For more information, contact Ziggy at 427-1644.

Wednesday, February 27, Want to Learn about the Catholic Faith? : We have a wonderful process for those whobare interested in learning more about the Catholic faith -- The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. Lifelong Lenten Sessions - Sun., March 9, 2 to 5 p.m., or Wed., March 12, 6 to 8:30 p.m: Both are in the hall. All parish households will share a simple meal, participate in a group prayer service, and then experience some hands-on learning about our faith. Lenten Reconciliation: Holy Cross will be hosting the Lenten Reconciliation for the Northern Deanery on March 13 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the church. On March 15 Reconciliation will also be available here from 9 a.m. to 12 noon in the church. Please check the kiosk for a list of other opportunities for reconciliation in this area.
Sun., March 16, ICF 5th Annual St. Joseph's Table Celebration: I.C.F. Br. #21 invites you to join in the St. Joseph's Table Celebration starting with a social at 3 p.m. and dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Holy Cross Parish Hall. All proceeds go to the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the St. Francis Catholic Soup Kitchen. Tickets available at the door…but RSVP's are appreciated. For more details click here.

Sun, April 20 ~ Confirmation Celebration: Bishop Ryan will celebrate the sacrament of Confirmation with 18 of our teens at the 11:00 Mass on April 20. All parishioners are invited to join us for this celebration. There will be a reception in the Hall following the Mass.
Fri, April 25 ~ Time to Party! On Friday, April 25, at 6:30 p.m. please join in the 50th birthday celebration for our Pastor Fr. Mark in the parish hall. Everyone is invited and asked to bring their favorite hors d’oeuvre (cold or hot) to share at the celebration. You may bring your appetizer to the hall on April 25 between 8 and 5 p.m. or bring it with you to the party. No gifts please. There will be a table for cards. Sun, May 4 Festival of Gifts: The Festival of Gifts will be this Sunday after all the Masses. Come and see how talented your fellow parishioners are. There will be tamales, a bake sale, plants, and a beautiful hand made quilt created by our 6th graders, just to mention a few of the wonderful items. church.Wed, May 7, 7:00 p.m. ~ An Evening of Learning and Reflection: Who is Mary? How can we identify with her? The Gospels situate her among many independent foremothers. Is she a porcelain statue or a real human? Come join Dr. Susan Mahan as she facilitates a group that will discuss and answer these questions at Villa Maria del Mar on Wednesday, May 7, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The cost is $15 and refreshments will be served. Fri, May 9, 6:00 p.m. ~ Y'all in for Poker & Family Bingo Night? Bring the whole family and join in the fun of the reverse giving Texas Hold’em Tournament and Family Bingo Night in the parish hall. Fri, May 16, 7:30 p.m. ~ The Diocesan Choir Concert Series: The Diocesan Choir, consisting of singers and instrumentalists from throughout the diocese, will appear in concert with Father Cyprian Consiglio at Holy Cross Church on Friday, May 16 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available for a donation of $10 and may be purchased at the door, or in advance at the Holy Cross Mission Gift Store and the church office.

The concert program will include all of the music that the choir will sing with Father Cyprian in concerts in Assisi, Florence and Rome this coming June, plus several of the pieces that will be sung when the choir sings at St. Peter's Basilica. The purpose of the concert is to help defray the overall expenses of the pilgrimage. Please consider attending this extraordinary concert!

This is our own Catholic Charities that supports three primary program areas: family supportive services, mental health counseling and immigration assistance throughout our Diocese. This is the only parishwide appeal for the year and Catholic Charities counts on your generosity to continue to fund these important programs. There will be a speaker from Catholic Charities to give a brief overview of its important work, to share stories of its successes and to ask you to become involved. Tues., May 20, 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. ~ Learning to Trust Your Experience of God Feast: (Faith, Education and Action in Service Together) Progressive Christians at UCSC and the Newman Catholic Center invites members of the GLBT Community to an evening of reflection, “Created Good, Called to be Holy: Learning to Trust Your Experience of God,” presented by Fr. James Graham, Sacramental Minister for the Newman Catholic Center. Sun, May 25, ~ Annual Corpus Christi Procession following the 11:00 a.m. Mass: The Blessed Sacrament, exposed in the Monstrance, will be carried around the property with the children who received Eucharist for the first time this year scattering flower petals. Everyone is invited to walk in the procession and participate in this public demonstration of our faith.
**FLOWER PETALS ARE NEEDED FOR PROCESSION ~ If you can contribute petals for the procession please bring them to church on May 25 and place them in the containers that will be available in the back of the church. Thank you!
Thur., June 12, 6:00 p.m. ~ A TASTE OF ARGENTINA: In the Parish Hall, we will feature the foods of Argentina at the second of our 2008 series of themed dinners. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children under 12. Tickets will be sold between Masses and are also available in the parish office. See the kiosk for additional information.
Pax Christi to Meet July 2: Pax Christi, our Catholic peace and social justice group, invites you to our next meeting on Wednesday, July 2, at 7 p.m. in room 108. Representatives from other parishes will join us as we work together to make peace real and cynicism vanish. If you need transportation in order to come to the meeting, call 427-1644. Let’s not leave anybody behind!
St. Vincent De Paul Closure: The St. Vincent de Paul food pantry will be closed for the months of July and August and will reopen the Wednesday after Labor Day. Other services will be available by calling 469-0631 and leaving a message.

Opportunities for Prayer on Monday: The Blessed Sacrament is exposed every Monday in the Mission Chapel from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. A bilingual Rosary is prayed at 7 p.m., and contemplative prayer begins at 8 p.m. This prayer includes singing of a psalm, readings from the Bible, Universal Wisdom, and 30 minutes of silent meditation. All are welcome.
Reverse Giving Update: There has been tremendous response to our venture in Reverse Giving. It has generated a great deal of participation and many discussions throughout the parish. Parishioners have responded to the opportunity to share their time and talent in many ways while using the amount distributed in the reverse collection last November. Well, we gave $10,000 out in the envelopes and we have received about half the envelopes back totaling about $14,000. So, if you are still working on projects, please continue. If you who have not been able to participate for whatever reason, please return the original gift you received. If you no longer have the original envelope just put the gift in an envelope marked Reverse Giving and place it in the collection basket or turn it in an to the rectory. Thank you for your participation and support. We are truly blessed here at Holy Cross!!!

Do You Like to Sing? Our choirs are rehearsing for the many beautiful liturgies that we will be celebrating in the coming months. We welcome and need more members. If you like to sing, can carry a tune, are free to attend one rehearsal a week and willing to commit to regularly participating in Mass we would love to welcome you. Thur., Sept. 4, 6:30 pm ~ Are you Ready for some BINGO? Bingo is a new social ministry for adults designed to promote fun and fellowship. Please join us at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 4 in the hall. All adults are welcome to participate as players or as helpers. Bring a friend! Your parish needs your support and participation as callers, floor workers and kitchen help. There will be good food and plenty of games. Come and join us for a wonderful evening of fellowship! Alter Servers Class Begin Tues., Sept. 9: Young people are invited to serve the parish as Altar Servers. This ministry is open to any young person who has received the Eucharist for the first time, and whose family regularly attends Holy Cross Church. To complete the program you will be required to attend three sessions. The sessions will be held in room 108 in the 210 High Street building from 3:30 to 4:30 on September 9, 16 and 23. September 12 ~ 14 Art & Transformation Symposium: Mark yourcalendars
now for a special treat that has been years in the making: Aweekend ofevents celebrating the connection between art and the Spirit of God. It will be held at Holy Cross on the weekend of Sept. 12 through 14, which is the feast of our parish. The weekend includes a concert on Friday night, a paneldiscussion on art and spirituality, an art exhibit by Brother Emmaus of New Camaldoli Hermitage, and Masses with Bishop Richard Garcia. It promises to be an enriching weekend, so we hope you can plan to participate in any or all of the events. For more information and an updated list of activities click here!
Marian Congress Coming September 19 - 20: Bishop Garcia extends an invitation to you to attend and participate in a Marian Congress to be celebrated in our Diocese in Salinas. The dates for this celebration are Friday evening, September 19, and all day Saturday, September 20. The Congress will be held at Madonna Del Sasso Church at 320 E. Laurel Drive in Salinas. Annual School Supply Drive: Once again the Santa Cruz Y.L.I. #95 invites you to participate in their annual school supply drive. They will be collecting back packs, binders, folders, paper, pencils, markers, rulers, erasers, socks, underwear, and gift cards or money. These supplies will be divided between CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) which serves children in the court system, mainly foster children and Live Oak Family Resource Center, which serves mainly the poor of Santa Cruz. Any money will go to Grandma Sue’s Community Program for the purchase of P.E. uniforms. Any donations can be left in the box at the back of the church or in the
rectory. Thank you for your on-going support!Can you help make lunches? Habitat for Humanity has asked our parish if some parishioners would be able to help make sandwich lunches once or twice a month for volunteers working on Habitat projects over the next few months. You would be helping people create better living space for many different groups of people in need throughout Santa Cruz County. If you would be able to help with this and/or could help coordinate our parish volunteers for making lunches, please call the parish office at 423-4182.

Thur., Oct 2, 6:30 pm ~ Time for BINGO!!! BINGO is back on the first Thursday of each month in the Parish Hall. The Parishioners who attended the first event had a lot of fun so please join us for our second event on Thursday, October 2, at 6:30 p.m., doors open at 5:30 p.m. All adults are welcome to participate and there will be good food and plenty of games. Only $15 for six paper cards and ten games. Daubers will be available for sale. All excess funds are split between the School and the Parish. Bring a friend and join us for a wonderful evening of fellowship!
